Every order in LettrLabs moves through a series of statuses as it goes from a first draft to a piece of mail in someone's hands. This guide walks through what each status means, in order, plus a few side-statuses you might see along the way — for example, an order for 500 postcards mailing to a sample ZIP code.
The Order Status List
Here's the normal path an order follows, from start to finish:
Draft — the order hasn't been finalized or checked out yet. You can still make changes freely.
Edits Needed — the LettrLabs team reviewed the order and flagged something that needs your input before it can move forward. See the section below for details.
Payment Needed — the order is ready to go, but payment hasn't been completed yet.
Paid — payment has been received.
Ready For Production — the order is queued up and about to enter production.
In Production — the order is actively being printed or prepared.
In QA — the order is going through quality review.
InShipping — the order has left production and is being prepared for, or is already in, the mail stream.
Mailed — the order has been mailed via USPS.
You'll also see a handful of side-statuses that can occur outside this normal forward sequence:
Refunded — the order was refunded.
Cancelled — the order was cancelled.
Deleted — the order was deleted. This status exists in the system, but as a customer you're unlikely to see it directly — it typically reflects internal cleanup rather than something you'd trigger yourself.
Error — something went wrong while the order was processing.
For the full detail on exactly what you can and can't edit at each of these stages, see Making Changes to a Submitted Order linked below — this guide is just about what each status means, not what actions are available at every point.
What "Edits Needed" Actually Means
"Edits Needed" is one of the statuses most likely to prompt a question, so it's worth explaining on its own. This status is set when a member of the LettrLabs team manually reviews your order — a proofing and quality check — and finds something that needs your input before production can proceed.
This is a human review step, not an automated system check. A real person on the LettrLabs team looked at your order and made a judgment call that something needed to change, whether that's a design detail, a recipient list issue, or something else that would affect the final printed piece.
If your order lands in Edits Needed, here's what to do:
Check for a note or message from the LettrLabs team explaining what needs to be fixed. This is usually attached to the order or sent to you directly.
Make the requested change to your order.
Once the change is made, the order can move forward again toward payment and production.
If you land on this status and can't find any note explaining what's needed, reach out to your LettrLabs contact or support so they can point you to the specific feedback.
Unverified: the exact backend service that receives the internal status-update action wasn't fully traced for this guide — what's confirmed is that a human LettrLabs team member sets this status, not an automated check.
